The Vision Behind the Monument

The vision of honoring Bryan County's and America's veterans has long been a vision of Richmond Hill Mayor Richard R. Davis.

Richmond Hill and south Bryan County have a long and storied history of supporting veterans and the military presence here. Soldiers stopped in the city, for example, on their way to Fort McAllister during the War Between the States. Rice fields in Richmond Hill fed soldiers during the war.

More recently, many residents from south Bryan County fought in World War II, the Korean War, the conflict in Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Today, hundreds of military families call Richmond Hill and south Bryan County home. Coupled with military retirees, the military presence in our community is significant.

With the vision moving toward fruition, the opportunity for you to participate in honoring our veterans by making a donation or purchasing a brick is a good way to show your love of country and patriotism.

Recognizing the importance of their presence and the contributions they make in Richmond Hill is just one aspect of the Veterans Monument. It honors all Americans, both military and civilian, who have stepped forward and served their country during some of its darkest hours.

The Monument as a Symbol

The monument bricks will surround a gleaming wall made of black granite. The Wall will detail the conflicts our relatives, friends, and neighbors have fought in. There will be benches to sit on and contemplate their contributions. All in all, it will be a peaceful and serene setting. Much like the monuments in Caimbridge, Verdun, Flanders Fields, Andersonville, etc., it will be a moving and somber experience to read the granite walls and monument's bricks and what they symbolize. In addition to that, patriotic music will be played softly in the background to help make the experience a memorable one.

As our country moves through difficult times, the Richmond Hill Veterans Monument is a visible and important way to show your support for those who have fought to make it the great land it has become.

The monument is a fitting way to honor those who have fought for freedom and given us the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world.

Buying a brick online will just take a moment and your actions will become a living testament to our country.
